Being a professional social worker,
I have worked in the states of Meghalaya and Delhi as a part of the curriculum. I ponder upon working in my own state Manipur (being belonging to the state of Manipur, Senapati District), but it has always been a dream for me. Dream came true happened when
I joined RRE (Recognize Rise and Empower) Association as a research team for Internship. Journey to kamjong (Research area) began on 2nd October with the excitement of- working as a research team, traveling to new district and exploring the villages of Kamjong district, Manipur. As we set off to Kamjong, cool breeze and magnificent clouds floating on top mountain ranges gave us a hearty welcome. One can simply be mesmerized by its beauty.
My interest area is on community development, public health and children. In this internship I expect to gain knowledge and experience about research and understand problems and issues pertaining to women in the community
The visit to each village is marked by incredible journey like a roller coaster ride and fast and furious. In some far off villages we stay for the night and leave early in the morning.
The hospitality of the villager’s and local food delight will make you feel at home. Research data were collected by travelling two to five villages in a day and around ten to twenty women were interviewed in each village through Focus Group Discussion (FGD). The only limitation of this study was poor road condition and time constraint. In research data collection I interviewed with more than hundred women.
It was my first time to personally facilitate the women’s group in the FGD. At first I was shaky but after few sessions I was able to build up my confidence and improve my facilitation skill. Besides self development I was able to understand problems and issues related to women’s- health, education, livelihood, sports and sustainable development and listen to stories of ups and downs in their life.
It motivates me to work on women’s health- maternal health care, nutrition, gender equality and healthy lifestyle.
It was a remarkable experience of my life.
